Our
venue is an integral part of the concert series experience for both our
audiences and our artists.

These
quotes from our artists emphasize the role the acoustics and the atmosphere
of the church play in our presentations.
We
loved the bucolic setting, the historic church, the warm and appreciative
audience. It is pleasure making music in Corrales. Lionheart,
New York City
I
look forward so much to performing again at the San Ysidro Church. In
addition to the austere beauty of the architecture and the moving historical
memories of generations who have worshipped in the church, the acoustics,
particularly for solo violin, are among the finest I have encountered
anywhere. Jack Glatzer, Lisbon, Portugal
Rarely
have we been so enchanted by a performance space
in that simple adobe
church, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth, intimacy, and simplicity.
What a beautiful setting to create music! Janet Chvatal
& Scott Kritzer, Portland
This
setting frees people to take in the music and the surroundings. The audience
receives so much from the setting and gives back to the performer.
Susan McDonald, Houston
There
was such a need for spirituality and coming together after September 11th.
The Old Church provided the atmosphere for warmth and nurturing. During
my concert I felt a renewed energy and sense of healing.

Our
venue has 175 seats and is accessible to wheelchairs. Because we have
limited seating capacity, we urge all ticket holders to show up at least
10 minutes before the concert start time. While we do not overbook in
advance, we will sell tickets for all available seats after 7:20 on each
concert night. Thus, we cannot guarantee seating after 7:20, even if you
have purchased a ticket.
Refreshments
during our concert intermissions are graciously provided for sale by Corrales
Bed and Breakfasts. These include Hacienda Manzanal and The Sandhill Crane.
We are deeply grateful for this partnership with these local businesses.
Please support them when you have out-of-town guests. Our refreshments
are served outside at night, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
The
Historic Old San Ysidro Church was built in 1869-70. In 1868, severe flooding
of the Rio Grande destroyed the colonial chapel that had been erected
sometime before 1750 near the river. The parish had already planned a
move to the present location; parish members salvaged timbers and graves
that were not washed away. Thus, the current nave appears to follow the
dimensions of the older building. However, because of a growing community,
the transept and windows were added to the design. Some salvaged pieces
are now window lintels.
The
Corrales parish moved again in 1961 to the larger building located on
Corrales Road. The Corrales Historical Society purchased the abandoned
building and grounds from the Archdiocese in 1974 and donated the property
to the Village of Corrales. After considerable restoration, the society
succeeded in placing
the site on both the New Mexico and the National Registers of Historic
Places; the Historical Society continues to manage the historic structure
as a memorial to the people of Corrales.
