It was serendipity. We were first introduced to the alpaca world in the summer of 2004 when Jeff picked up a copy of Alpacas Magazine at the newsstand. We were fascinated. The following morning he goes to the village market to pick up a Sunday paper and strikes up a conversation with the person behind the counter. As Jeff's commenting on how hot it is already and how he will definitely be putting the sprinklers on for the llamas, the woman directly behind him chimes in that she cannot believe the heat and she will be doing the same thing for her alpacas! Jeff returns home and Skip continues pouring through Alpacas Magazine as Jeff reads the Sunday paper. We pass this off as purely coincidental . . . Later that week, as friends of the family are visiting, they comment that since we love critters so much we should consider alpacas! They are sooooo cute, and besides, they hear they are a great investment! Suddenly we are seeing and hearing alpacas everywhere! Coincidence or Divine Destiny? We believe the later. In December of 2005, after much research, and visiting many ranches, we purchased our first alpaca, a true black and Grand Champion Suri herdsire named Ebony Icon. Our journey had begun. Special thanks to: Leslie and James Loveless - Sierra Bonita Becky and Dan Merrill - Wasatch Moon Alpacas For allowing us to purchase such a wonderful herdsire, Ebony Icon! We would also like to thank the following for their patience, support, knowledge, multiple ranch visits and just plain advice: Ellen Simons - Pacajama Company Amanda and Jim Evans - Sagebrush Alpacas Ron Schuetz - High Alpine Suri Alpacas Jo Ann and Kristina Flegel - Dos Doñas Alpaca Farm Juanita DeSisto - 3 Boys' Alpacas And most importantly: Thanks to GOD for giving us the opportunity, the eyes to see it, and the sense to take it!
